Breast Reduction Procedure
This procedure involves the use of general anesthesia.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect, your surgeon will make the incision in the skin and remove the excess skin and tissue. The incisions are usually closed using dissolvable stitches. The operation lasts from two to four hours.
Most people who have had this type of procedure under general anesthetic will be able to leave hospital the next day.
You will have thin plastic tubes (Drains) emerging from the skin near the incisions. These are to remove any blood or fluid that may collect under the skin. The drains are usually removed the next day.
If you have had liposuction only, you may be able to go home the same day.
When you return home, you should rest and be extra careful for the first week. You should avoid any lifting, stretching or strenuous exercise for at least six weeks.
